Preceptor Resources
Database Usage by Preceptors

Swilley's databases may be searched from a remote computer through the use of passwords.  To obtain the current passwords and use library resources, all preceptors must first complete and return a confidentiality agreement to the COPHS Office of Experiential Education.  Note:  this is not an automated form; turnaround time of confirmation may be up to one week.

Click here to retrieve the form.

Once you have submitted the form and received confirmation go to the passwords page.

About the Databases

GALILEO - Mercer University participates in the Georgia Library Learning Online project (GALILEO). This project is a cooperative purchasing effort to subscribe to over 120 indexes, abstracts and other electronic resources between public and private sector institutions of higher education throughout Georgia. GALILEO databases provide a valuable collection of reference resources as well as many periodical titles, encyclopedias, dictionaries, and public documents in full-text.

PubMed - When you search using this link you should be able to see which articles Swilley Library has, however, you may not be able to link directly to the articles that are in databases from off campus.

PubMed Tutorials

IDIS - Search for full-text articles about drugs and drug therapy in humans taken from over 200 peer-reviewed English language medical and pharmaceutical journals. The complete article is also available online (1997 through the current month).  IDIS does not index cover to cover. It is searchable from your PDA.

Hint: Use the Lookup features for a successful search.  More on how to do this...

Ovid - You can search the Medline database or choose Your Journals@Ovid to search only the 265+ full-text journals Swilley has in a non-Medline database.
Cochrane Library - You can search the database, but not view the full-text systematic reviews from off campus.  Contact the library's pharmacy liaison if you would like to view one of the reviews.
Find a Journal
If you find a journal citation in a database and the article is not available in full-text, go to the Find a Journal search engine and enter the name of the journal. This database will tell you if the journal is owned by Swilley or if we have access to the journal in another database.
